Knitting | Ever since I completed my first fair isle project a few weeks ago, I've been obsessed with colorwork. I finished all of my work in progress, and the only thing that I had left on my needles was my Strokkur sweater. The bottom part of the body is already finished, and I cast on for the first sleeve yesterday.

If you're not familiar with this pattern, it's a simple icelandic sweater that features a beautiful colorwork yoke. But there's also stockinette, and a lot of it I must say. When I cast on for the sleeves, I realized that I would have to work many rows before starting the fun part of the sweater. And i couldn't imagine myself knitting more stockinette without the prospect of adding a little bit of fair isle before the yoke. And that's what I did!

I played a bit with colors, placing one square of yellow here and two of grey there, and I ended up with a little chart that represents a very simple pattern that I would include on the bottom part of the sleeves. As you can see, there's nothing fancy about it. And I think that it will complement the sweater very well, without taking away too much from the yoke.

Shwook

And here it is, my first fair isle project! I never thought that colorwork could be so much fun, from selecting the colors, to seeing how they combine together in a swatch, to knitting one chart after the other. It's really addictive.

Many partcipants of the knit along have already completed their Shwook, and they all look so great! I've seen many color combinations that inspired me so much. and that I hope to include in some future knitting plans. I thought of working on a bigger fair isle project like this one that I absolutely adore, or even this one, even though it would probably take me a whole life time to finish it.

I never thought that I would be so slow at knitting fair isle. This hat is taking me forever! But seeing these little stitches combined together, makes the work so much worth it. I love how the dark tones empashis the bright ones, and the color variation within one colorway is stunning. There's still a lot of work until my hat will be completed, but I'm taking it slowly, enjoying a few rows here and there, a cup of tea next to me, contemplating the autumn through my window.

First steps in fair isle

There’s been a lot of temptation this week. Even though I already have a lot of projects on my needles, which is mostly work for my Etsy shop, I was very close to cast on the Shwook hat. Maybe it’s because of the yarn that is taunting me on the shelf, or it’s because Anna just finished hers too.
But I’ve tried to be reasonable and wait for October before casting it on.
In the meanwhile I wanted to practice a bit of fair isle, since I’ve never tried this technique before, and see if my colour combination was working.
And I never thought that it could be so addictive! After finishing one of the charts to check my gauge, I didn’t want to put my needles down anymore. I was completely hooked. October’s going to be amazing! If any of you is interested in a knit-along let me know, that could be a lot of fun!
